The Dharavi Redevelopment Project clarified on Saturday (December 16) that the Dharavi slum redevelopment project was secured through a transparent international bidding process under the previous Congress-Shiv Sena coalition government (Maha Vikas Aghadi or MVA).
The Adani Group’s Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL) emphasised that the financial conditions, including obligations and incentives, were consistent for all bidders and remained unchanged for the awardee.
What is Dharavi Redevelopment Project?
The project aims to transform the world’s largest slum into a modern city hub and resettle its 1 million residents. The DRPPL stressed that all eligible tenement holders would receive a key-to-key solution, debunking misinformation about the project and reaffirming the commitment to transparency and community development.
“The Dharavi project was awarded to the Adani Group through a fair, open, internationally competitive bidding process,” the statement said.
“It is important to note that the tender conditions were finalised during the tenure of the MVA government, which demitted office at the end of June 2022. The finalised conditions, including the obligations and incentives, which were known to all the bidders, have not been changed for the awardee post the tendering process. Hence, it is wrong to claim that any special benefits have been given to the awardee,” it further read.
Issue of transferable development rights
The statement also addressed concerns about Transferable Development Rights (TDR) and emphasised the adherence to relevant laws and transparent management of TDR through a dedicated portal.
“The Dharavi project assumes added significance because many earlier attempts have failed to deliver. It is against this backdrop that the Adani Group has taken up the challenge and the responsibility of transforming Dharavi with all the above facilities,” the statement added.
The Adani Group reiterated its dedication to the significant task of transforming Dharavi and providing its residents with improved living conditions and essential amenities.
