Just when you thought that the world of stocks and politics were miles apart, an ordinary investor’s call for an investment tip on a particular stock he held has not only merged the two worlds but also triggered a laugh riot on social media.
The unthinkable happened when the investor, who identified himself as Sandeep, called a prominent Hindi business television channel and enquired about an expert’s take on the Olectra Greentech stock. Sandeep declared that he had purchased 1,500 shares of the company at Rs 1,260 apiece. It was what he said next that took the Zee Business anchor as well as the expert in splits.
“I hold 1,500 shares in Olectra Greentech and I had purchased them at Rs 1,260 (apiece),” Sandeep said on air. The anchor then enquired about the holding period, or the timeframe that he was willing to hold the stock for.

“Jab tak Rahul Gandhi pradhan mantri nahi ban jaate tab tak hold kar sakta hoon main (I can hold the stock till Rahul Gandhi becomes the Prime Minister),” replied Sandeep, leaving the anchor as well as the expert bemused.
The financial expert on the panel, too, could not hold his wit. “At least it is clear that he is a long-term investor,” he quipped.

A short clip of the unexpected interaction has sparked a laugh riot on social media. “New definition of long term investor,” wrote one user on X. “Hats off to Sandeep’s confidence,” wrote another. “True long term goals… wealth creation ultra pro max,” tweeted another user.
Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP from Wayanad and former party president, has often been the subject of humour on social media. The recent clip, aired on December 13, came just 10 days after the party’s drubbing in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, the three Hindi heartland states that the party had won in 2018.

Rahul had campaigned aggressively across the three states and the party was hopeful of winning on the back of the Congress’ welfare promises and a caste census. While the party managed to wrest power in Telangana, its loss in the heartland has led to several political experts predicting that the Lok Sabha elections 2024 may well be a battle the Congress has already lost.
Can Rahul Gandhi prove his critics wrong and revive Congress? Can he lead the party to a victory and its days of glory? Can Rahul Gandhi halt Narendra Modi’s bid to return to power for a third consecutive term, a feat that would land him on equal footing with India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru? The Lok Sabha elections three months from now will hold the answer to the future of Congress, the INDIA alliance as well as Rahul Gandhi.
