IELTS One Skill Retake now accepted by Immigration New Zealand

Good news for international students looking for a New Zealand visa. In a significant move to streamline the visa and migration application process, Immigration New Zealand has announced the acceptance of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) One Skill Retake option.

“The New Zealand government’s acceptance of the IELTS one skill retake marks a significant step towards creating a more personalised and accommodating environment for aspiring students.

If a test taker does not receive the desired score in any of the four skills—Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking—they may retake the test with the IELTS One Skill Retake option. Immigration New Zealand has acknowledged it as a legitimate and dependable method of evaluating English language competency, satisfying the rigorous standards for foreign immigration to New Zealand.

According to Warwick Freeland, Managing Director – IELTS, IDP Education said, “At IELTS, we continuously strive to evolve our offerings to meet the dynamic needs of our test-takers and the institutions that rely on our assessments. The acceptance of IELTS One Skill Retake by Immigration New Zealand is a testament to the quality and adaptability of our testing system. This progressive step allows applicants to refine specific language skills, providing a more tailored approach to demonstrating English language proficiency.”

When a test taker opts for an IELTS One Skill Retake, they will receive a second Test Report Form (TRF) containing their updated score, which they can utilize for research and migration.

“IELTS one skill retake is the step in the right direction. It offers students the opportunity to focus on and enhance particular aspects of their language skills, customizing their proficiency more precisely with their strengths and needs. This approach enables test takers by allowing them to match their language abilities, ensuring a more personalized and effective learning experience that caters to their specific goals and aspirations,” says Rohit Sethi, Director, ESS Global.

Test takers have the option to use their old or new TRF for the skill they retook, based on their score. Governments and organizations worldwide are beginning to accept IELTS One Skill Retakes more frequently.

“This acceptance offers tremendous benefits to students aiming to study in New Zealand. Allowing applicants to retake a single skill in the IELTS exam instead of the entire test, it reduces the burden on students and provides a fair opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in specific areas. This change promotes accessibility and inclusivity for aspiring students, enabling them to showcase their language abilities more accurately. We believe this initiative will encourage more talented individuals to pursue educational opportunities in New Zealand, fostering a diverse and enriched academic environment,” says Amit Singh, Founder of UniScholars.
