Jio has announced “JioTV Premium” prepaid plans bundling high-speed data and up to 14 OTT apps under one recharge. Available in monthly, quarterly, and annual trims, the new prepaid JioTV Premium recharge plans from Jio are seemingly designed to offer “unlimited” entertainment to users. JioTV Premium plans prices in India starts at Rs 398. For Rs 398 a month (28 days validity), Jio’s JioTV Premium will get you 2GB of daily data (no capping post consumption, but speed will be reduced), unlimited voice calling and SMS, in addition to free subscription of 12 “leading” OTT apps. You’ll also be able to buy a quarterly JioTV Premium plan for Rs 1,198 (84 days validity) while an annual top-up will set you back by Rs 4,498 (365 days validity). The quarterly and annual JioTV Premium plans will give you free access to 14 OTT apps in addition to unlimited data (2GB/daily), voice calling and SMS benefits. Annual plan subscribers will be eligible for “priority” customer care, Jio says, including one-click call centre support.
JioTV Premium plans decoded
The new plans are clearly aimed to increase traffic to Jio’s JioTV app and make way for a more “premium” tier future for the company. The JioTV app has been a free (non-premium) entity bundled for free with most— if not all— Jio plans, prepaid and postpaid, so far. This seems to be the first time Jio is dabbling with the idea of a “JioTV Premium” service where paying a bit of an extra will give you extra benefits, in this case free access to other top OTT apps. Jio in fact is pitching its JioTV app as a one-stop-shop for all your entertainment needs if you can pay the extra fee and purchase one of its new plans. Opting for one of these plans means you’ll be able to watch content from multiple platforms without buying them separately or creating different logins for each app individually except for Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar where access is only available through their respective apps. Jio says it will also enable easy content discovery through its “advanced recommendation engine” inside its JioTV app. Jio groups its free OTT catalogue under three banners: national apps which include JioCinema Premium, Disney+ Hotstar, Zee5 and SonyLiv; international including Amazon Prime Video (mobile), Lionsgate Play, Discovery+ and Docubay; and regional consisting of SunNXT, Hoichoi, Planet Marathi, Chaupal, EpicOn, Kanccha Lannka. JioTV Premium plans are available for new and existing customers starting from today, December 15, 2023.
