The newly inaugurated integrated terminal at Surat International Airport is hailed as a vital component of the city’s infrastructural development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described it as a “significant upgrade for Surat, enhancing ‘Ease of Living’ and fostering increased commerce in the city and its vicinity.”
Surat presently has air connectivity to 14 domestic cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Goa, Goa Mopa, Belgaum, Pune, Jaipur, Udaipur, Indore, Diu, and Kishangarh. Additionally, the city is connected internationally through Sharjah, providing global accessibility.
Capacity of new terminal building of Surat airport
The Surat terminal building has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,200 domestic passengers and 600 international passengers during peak hours, with provisions to expand peak-hour capacity to 3,000 passengers. The annual handling capacity is set to increase to 55 lakh passengers. Additionally, the overall capacity of Surat Airport will triple with the operationalisation of the newly built terminal building, as confirmed by Sanjeev Kumar, the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The airport features a 2906 x 45-meter runway suitable for Code ‘C’ aircraft and an 8474 square meter terminal building. The airport also incorporates various eco-friendly elements, including a solar power plant, rainwater harvesting, low heat gain double glazing units, energy-conserving canopies, water treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, and the utilization of recycled water for landscaping.
