India sees 31% increase in number of girl students since 2014-15, says Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Rajya Sabha

In a welcoming trend, Indian schools are seeing more and more female students, the education ministry said in the latest data announced in the Rajya Sabha recently. According to the latest government data, the girls education between 2014-15 rose by 31 per cent. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the initiative taken under the Modi-led government that helped in higher female student enrollment.

In the question-hour of the Rajya Sabha, Pradhan informed that in India there are around 300 million students – 260 million in class 0-12th and 40 million in higher education institutions. As per the report, there has been a spike in higher education students by 20-25% along with category students overall.

The education minister highlighted that government initiatives have encouraged more children to study. He believes the New Education Policy will help elevate India in the next three years.

Pradhan emphasized the importance of Indian languages, stating that they are integral to India’s identity. To promote this, the government has made it mandatory for students in classes 11 and 12 to study at least two languages, with one being an Indian language.

Under the updated curriculum framework, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular, ensuring that teaching materials for 20 Indian civil languages are available in schools. This move aims to support the learning of diverse Indian languages.
