Year-Ender 2023: Coaching centres make a comeback as students return offline

In the past few years, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, students turned to online tutoring. However, after encountering adverse effects, there has been a gradual transition back to offline coaching. Students continue to view offline coaching as the preferred choice, even though online testing has gained prominence, Ramesh Batlish, managing partner and head, FIITJEE, told FE Education. “Optimal class sizes, around 45-55 students, enhance the learning environment. To maintain quality, institutes should monitor faculty adherence to schedules. There must be a support system for students, ensuring they have opportunities for mock tests, prompt test analyses and counselling for query resolution,” he said.

The burgeoning competition among students willing for coveted spots in elite colleges has fueled the rapid growth of the Indian education system. Experts believe that, in recent years, the success rate of students in admission exams for top colleges in India has seen a notable upswing, largely attributed to the widespread utilisation of coaching institutes. These institutions managed all the necessary resources for engineering and medical exam preparation. “It not only offers study materials and practice test sheets but also provides recorded classes, giving students the flexibility to review topics for better comprehension. To enhance educational accessibility and foster lifelong learning, institutions are actively embracing a hybrid model,” Nitin Viijay, founder, CEO, Motion Education, said.

The coaching fees vary depending on the coaching institute. Certain institutes are providing JEE and NEET coaching with a commencement cost ranging from Rs two-four lakh for two years. Meanwhile, others offer similar coaching at a more affordable starting price of Rs 1.30 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh. “We have implemented a flexible fee structure that enables instalment payments. In addition to this flexibility, the institute understands the challenges faced by parents and provides finance options to further ease the financial burden,” Vijay, said.
