Dawood Ibrahim’s alleged ‘poisoning’ brings India’s terror blacklist back into spotlight

Dawood Ibrahim, India’s most wanted terrorist, has been allegedly poisoned in Karachi. Latest media reports state that the mastermind of 1993 Bombay serial blasts has been hospitalised following the alleged poisoning incident. Dawood’s condition is said to be serious with some reports stating that an entire floor of the Karachi hospital has been cordoned off. While there has been no official statement by Pakistan authorities on Dawood’s condition (they never accepted that he is in Pakistan in first place), the incident has brought back India’s terror blacklist back in the spotlight.

In last 12 months, a string of mysterious attacks have been reported from Pakistan. What’s common in all these attacks? All the men killed in these mysterious attacks were on India’s terror blacklist. India’s has refrained from making a statement on these attacks. Earlier this month, there were reports of unidentified assailants killing Lashkar-e-Taiba’s terrorist, who was behind the Pampore attack. External Affairs Ministry’s spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that New Delhi would not make any statement regarding what was happening in Pakistan. He further said that New Delhi would want those facing criminal charges to ‘face the justice system.’ While India remains silent on these mysterious attacks, month after month, men on New Delhi’s blacklist are being killed.

When Hafiz Saeed was ‘poisoned’

The alleged target killings began sometime after 2021. Back then, Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of 2008 Mumbai terror attacks was reportedly poisoned. There were reports that the Lashkar-e-Taiba founder survived the attack. Soon after this, several reports started coming from Pakistan, where terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed or Lashkar were killed in mystery attacks.
