From diamond-encrusted to centuries-old: The world’s most expensive whisky bottles

In the world of fine spirits, the value of a good whisky extends beyond its taste to include rarity, age, and, of course, its ability to command a hefty price tag. Let’s explore seven of the most extravagant whisky bottles globally, ranging from jewel-encrusted to centuries-old classics.

Isabella’s Islay:

Costing a staggering $6.2 million (approx. Rs. 51 crores), Isabella’s Islay Original Whiskey is encrusted with over 5,000 diamonds, 300 rubies, and two bars of white gold. This limited-edition gem offers a creamy blend with notes of smoke, wood, and berries.

The Emerald Isle Collection:

Priced at $2 million (over Rs. 14 crores), this triple-distilled Irish whisky from Bushmills, dating back to 1608, comes with a bespoke Fabergé Celtic Egg, a 22k gold timepiece, and a Cohiba Siglo VI Grand Reserva cigar. The collection, auctioned in 2021, set a record as the most expensive inaugural release for any whisky company.

The Macallan Michael Dillon 1926:

Sold for £1.2 million (over Rs. 12 crores) at Christie’s in London in 2018, this bottle features a hand-painted design by Irish artist Michael Dillon, making it the first whisky to surpass the £1 million mark at any auction.

Hanyu Ichiro’s Full Card Series:

This series, sold for $1.5 million (over Rs. 12 crores) in 2020, comprises 54 bottles released between 2005 and 2014. Crafted in the Hanyu-based distillery, the series represents a handpicked selection from 400 casks.

The Dalmore Decades No6 Collection:

A complete set of the Dalmore Decades whiskies, featuring bottles from 1951 to 2000, fetched $1.1 million (over Rs. 9 crores) in a 2021 auction. The crystal decanters are adorned with a silver collar and placed atop an illuminated pedestal.

The Yamazaki 55-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky:

In 2022, this Japanese single malt whisky, the priciest bottle in Japan, sold for a staggering $780,000 (over Rs. 6 crores), earning the title of the most expensive Japanese whisky in the world.

From opulent diamonds to exquisite craftsmanship and centuries-old aging, these whiskies redefine luxury, offering enthusiasts a taste of unparalleled extravagance.
