‘False and baseless’ – JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal denies charge of rape

JSW Group Chairman and Managing Director Sajjan Jindal has denied the allegation of the levelled against him. In a statement, the JSW boss said he was committed to providing ‘full cooperation’ throughout the probe. The statement comes a day after it was reported that a 30-year-old woman alleged Jindal of sexual harassment. A PTI report said that the woman reportedly met the billionaire during a cricket match in Dubai. The meeting took place a few years ago, the woman has claimed. The report against the 64-year-old billionaire has been lodged at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex Police Station.

The complainant is a Mumbai resident, who is an actor by profession. According to the FIR, which was registered by the Mumbai Police on December 13, the sexual assault took place on January 23. In her complaint, the woman has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by JSW Group chairman inside the company’s headquarters located in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. The woman has also claimed that Jindal had promised to marry her.

The PTI report says that the FIR against Jindal has been filed under Indian Penal Code’s sections 376 (rape), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The 30-year-old woman alleges that her initial encounter with Jindal took place in the VIP box of a Dubai stadium, where they exchanged contact information. Subsequently, she asserts meeting Jindal at a luxury hotel in suburban Bandra, as well as at Jindal Mansion in south Mumbai. She further states that they went on a drive together before the reported incident of sexual assault. According to the FIR, the woman claimed that Jindal has been evading contact with her since the alleged assault.
