Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) on Friday announced that it has received an order of Rs 4522 crore from Indian Army for the supply of fuses for various calibres. “This contract has been signed on 15th Dec 2023 by Maj Gen Gurpreet Singh Choudhry, SM, VSM [JS (Army & TA)/DMA] and Shri Bhanu Prakash Srivastava CMD, BEL in the presence of Vice Admiral Atul Anand, AVSM, VSM, Additional Secretary (DMA). Indigenisation of Critical Technologies was the key requirement of tender,” the company said in a regulatory filing.
BEL stated that the project will have participation of Indian Electronics and associated Industries, including MSMEs which are sub-vendors of BEL.
With the above, BEL has cumulatively received orders worth Rs 23176 crores (excl. taxes) in the current financial year 2023-24.
As on June 20 in the financial year 2023-24, BEL had received orders worth Rs 5,900 crore. “BEL received orders for two regiments of Improved Akash Weapon System (AWS) with upgrades from BDL for a value of Rs 3,914 crore,” it had said in June. Akash is an all-weather, point/area air-defence weapon system intended for defending vulnerable points/areas against threats emanating from low, medium and high altitudes. The system uses high mobility vehicles for mobile application.
