Delhi Airport implements measures to decongest and enhance passenger experience; Jyotiraditya Scindia unveils strategic upgrades – Key details

In a significant move to alleviate congestion and enhance passenger experience at Delhi Airport, Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday (December 15) announced a series of improvements aimed at streamlining the flow of travelers. Addressing the media at the national media center, Scindia highlighted the strategic enhancements made to various airport facilities to prioritise passenger movement and ensure a hassle-free experience.

Over the past year, Scindia personally visited the Delhi airport in response to complaints about congestion in passenger movement. Subsequent meetings with stakeholders resulted in a comprehensive revamp of facilities to address these concerns.

Remarkable increase in entry points

One of the notable improvements is the significant increase in entry points, which have surged by 113 per cent. From 31 entry points in December last year, the airport now boasts 66 entry points, providing passengers with more efficient access to the airport.

Additionally, X-BIS machines, essential for security checks, have been augmented from 50 to 66.

More CISF personnel deployed

To bolster security measures, there has been a notable 29 percent increase in the deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Delhi airport, with a current deployment of 6,140 personnel. Immigration desks have been increased from 153 to 174, facilitating smoother immigration processes for travelers. Scindia also acknowledged the growing popularity of the Digi Yatra initiative, which offers passengers a hassle-free entry experience.

“There is around 29 percent increase in deployment of CISF security personnel at Delhi airport. At present there are 6,140 personnel deployed. Immigration desks have been increased to 174 from 153 in last year. Lots of passengers are opting from Digi Yatra for hassle free entry to the airport,” the minister asserted.

Introduction of ‘Zone 0’

A groundbreaking development is the creation of a ‘Zone 0’ at Delhi airport, achieved by dismantling reserve lounges. The departure hall has been strategically cleared of commercial space, providing more room for passengers.

The minister emphasised that space allocations for commercial activities are meticulously planned to be ‘on the way’ rather than ‘in the way,’ ensuring a seamless and natural flow of passengers.

The enhancements at Delhi Airport underscore the government’s commitment to transforming airport infrastructure and services, aligning with the evolving needs and expectations of air travelers.

The focus on creating a more efficient, secure, and passenger-friendly environment is a crucial step in positioning Delhi Airport as a key hub for domestic and international travel.
